The 9th Annual Square Lake Triathlon will be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7, 2008.
The time of year, location of these events, and their distances are all planned to help the multi-sport athlete
extend their competitive season. Whether training for the Ironman or participating in your first
triathlon, we will make sure that you have an excellent experience.

THE SITE - Square Lake is known throughout the Midwest for its crystal clear water, trout fishing and scuba
divers. Square Lake County Park is truly one of the most beautiful parks in the Northeast
Metro Area. When you combine these two, along with the fall colors, you will find
this the most beautiful and enjoyable multisport venue.

ACCOMMODATIONS - The Northeast Metro area has many options for our traveling triathletes. There are many beautiful
bed and breakfasts in the St. Croix Valley and hotels in the Stillwater/White Bear area. For our travelling triathletes and their families, we have arranged special rates at the White Bear Country Inn/Best Western. Call them at (651)429-5393

THE SWIM - The swim takes place in beautiful Square Lake which is one of the cleanest lakes in the Twin Cities. Wave starts will be utilized with the first starting at precisely 8:00 a.m. for the Saturday's Short Course and 7:30 a.m for Sunday's Long Course event. Expect race-day water temperature to be cool. Swim caps will be provided and required for all participants. Wet suits are recommended. The long course swim will consist of two laps.

THE BIKE - The 18 mile and 56 mile bike course will take you on country paved roads around Square Lake and
through the small town of Marine. The routes are known to be scenic with many rolling hills (and a couple of large hills). This area is a favorite for many Twin Cities cyclists and should prove to be very enjoyable. ANSI or Snell approved helmets are required for all participants when on the bike course. On the long course bike, a water bottle drop will be at the half way point. Water and gaterade wil be available

THE RUN - The 5 mile will circle Square Lake counterclockwise and the and 13.1 mile run is an out and back course. The footing is a mixture of both gravel and blacktop. The run loop is mostly flat but does have a few hills throughout. There will be aid stations with water at the start and at every mile. On the long course run, water and gaterade will be available at every mile.

Registration Information - Last year there were approximately 500 in the short course and 275 in the long course . Parking at the park is always an issue and if possible, please carpool with other competitors. Anyone who is at least 13 years of age on race day can enter the Square Lake Triathlon short course. Anyone 16 years of age on race day can enter the long course.

Awards - will be presented to the top three in each age group . Age Groups( men and women): 19 and under, 20-24, 25 -29, 30-34, 35 -39, 40-44, 45 - 49, 50-54, 54 - 59, 60-64, 65 - 69, 70 and above. Elite Athletes will be the first wave to start the race. Awards will be presented to the top three men and women in each age group.

Teams - Teams are always welcome and encouraged. Find some friends that will compliment your strengths. Teams can be mixed(at least one female), male or female. If you don't have a team, let us know and we will try to help you find one. Clydesdale/Athena - Men weighing 200 lbs. plus and women weighing 145 lbs. plus are qualified to enter the Clydesdale/Althena Division.
